Welcome to those that happen on my little site ... (boy that’s kind of a corny start).  I started this project as a challenge to to improve my writing skills.  I tend to get wordy expressing my thoughts, but believe it or not the blog has helped me improve (yeah, I still have a long way to go).  I read my own articles frequently and find myself constantly tweaking.  Most of the time it is to try and make the content more concise and readable.  If I change anything significant, you’ll find that section labeled update and in a different color.

The site is basically organized into three main blogs.  The Camera blog is all about capture ... equipment, techniques, philosophy, etc.  The Printing blog is about all things printing (imagine that), such as equipment, paper, and in there I’ve also thrown in anything that has to do with image preparation.  Anything that doesn’t fall in those two groups ends up in the catch all ... appropriately named Blog (now that’s an original name for it).

You’ll find I have no shortage of opinions, lots of years in the photography industry, and access to lots of equipment which I like to play around with.  You may or may not agree with my perspective, and I have no problem with that. If you don’t agree and have a really good point to make that isn’t already all over the web, feel free to drop me an email ... I try to be open minded.  I generally don’t respond to this type of discussion ... after all we are all entitled to our own opinions.  No need to waste a lot of time blasting emails back and forth ... I see plenty of that going on in various forums and it usually does nothing but cause otherwise civil people to become rude.

A little about me...

I’ve been a professional portrait photographer for over 30 years, as well as owning and operating a pretty large photographic lab.   My current passion is landscape photography - an interest I know is shared by thousands of professionals, semi-professionals and amateurs throughout the world. I tend to write about things that intrigue me, sometimes have a tip I haven’t seen somewhere else.  Some of the tips are intended for those new in photography ... I get asked for tips by employees and others quite often - maybe someday I’ll have a nice collection of information for them.

As co-founder (now retired and just consulting) of a major photographic chain throughout the United States (check it out at www.kiddiekandids.com) I get an opportunity to see and hear about many of the new things as they are introduced..  I’m not a reviewer so I certainly don’t get to see all the cool stuff, but I do buy a lot of equipment and put things through the paces pretty well.
