The Gura Gear kiboko camera bag

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

I own about 10 different camera bags and cases (OK, maybe 15).  I keep searching for the “perfect” one ... without much success.  There are several which are pretty good, but there is always something I hate about each one (well, dislike greatly anyway).

A few months ago I read this review about a new bag,  Kiboko from Gura Gear. I was intrigued by the design, but decided since I’ve never found a backpack style bag I liked, odds were this one wouldn’t be any different.  After reading how popular this bag was with those attending Luminous Landscapes Antarctic trip, I changed my mind and decided to give one a try.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t put the bag to a big test yet.  But the harness system seems very supportive yet not overly big and can be secured completely out of the way.  You can literally carry it like a small suitcase, and it qualifies for overhead on pretty much every airline ... as far as size anyway.

The ingenious double pocket system surprised me with its usefulness.  You can organize lenses and bodies based on access, and don’t have to open up a huge front flap to access your stuff, just one side or the other.  Terrific idea.  I can’t wait to go on a trip and give the bag a workout.

Here’s the link to the actual site ... Gura Gear | Photo gear bags
