Epson announced three new professional printers at Photokina. The most significant is the 4900, which brings the head technology and HDR inkset of the 7900 and 9900 printers down into a “desktop” printer. The printer sports a refreshed look, but still offers the paper handling flexibility that made the 48xx series popular.

Epson has also announced the 7890 and 9890 printers ... bascially moving the K3/vivid magenta inkset into the same chassis as the 7900/9900 printers. This offers many of the great features of the top end printers, such as improved paper handling, faster printing and cutting, no spindle roll paper loading system, auto nozzle detection, and better heads at a lower price. The new printers employ the same black ink switching in the print head as in the 3880/7900/9900 printers which reduces ink waste dramatically.
